We are looking for a Junior Accountant for our downtown Vancouver office. Our office is in the historic Sun Tower (on the Vancouver Heritage Register) in the “Crosstown” area of downtown Vancouver, with a view of Vancouver Harbour, False Creek and the North Shore Mountains. We are located in an area known for culture, sports, restaurants and boutique shopping, on the same block as the Stadium skytrain station and on several bus and cycling routes.
SUMMARY
The Junior Accountant is responsible for assisting the Senior Accountant with full-cycle accounting and banking, including the preparation of financial statements, and payroll administration. This is a full-time, in-office position for someone who has 3+ years experience with full-cycle accounting, preferably in a law firm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee accounting with the accounting team: Accounts payable, accounts receivable, trust accounting and reporting, monthly and quarterly taxes filing/remittance
- Handle financial management: Monthly financial reporting with variance analysis, billing and collections, cash flow control, forecasting and budgeting, other financial management functions
- Coordinate entering of disbursements; run pre-bills/bills
- Answer client enquiries, revise and resend invoices
- Prepare performance reports for lawyers’ annual reviews
- Ensure lawyers' Law Society fees and insurance are paid
- Prepare year-end working papers
- Payroll & Benefits Administration: Maintain employee records, and update employee information, prepare and process full cycle payroll, ensure accuracy of benefits, issue ROEs, administer parking and transit
- Assist external accountant with the annual financial statements and tax return
- Work with the Office Manager to implement internal controls to safeguard assets
QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in accounting, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive related work experience
- Experience in professional services is considered an asset
- Proficient in PCLaw or Soluno an asset
- Ability to handle sensitive information
- Fluency in English
