The Director of Housing Support Programs oversees our housing, outreach and employment teams ensuring program goals, targets and outcomes are successful. Duties include staff supervision and ongoing education through team meetings and supervisory sessions, assists in budget management, assists in proposal development and grant and contribution reports, tracking and monitoring data oversight and reporting to funders.
In this role, you will:
- Supervise individual staff, facilitate team meetings. Facilitate goal setting and performance evaluations and work with staff to ensure successful outcomes for the daily operation and programming of our Units for Youth, Streets to Homes, You Got This, and Pre-Employment programs.
- Provide direction to staff in key clinical areas to support a culture of professional growth and accountability for quality and consistency in services.
- Coach staff in building and maintaining rapport and positive relationships with participants.
- Oversee the program budget, including completing financial reports such as quarterly, interim, and annual funding reporting to City of Toronto to ensure financial accountability to funding bodies.
- Provide direction and supervision to staff in maintaining documentation according to professional standards.
- Coach staff in maintaining appropriate case files, logs, Accident/Incident Reports. Ensure appropriate documentation in case files and logs. Ensure quality audit measures are achieved in accordance with the YMCA and funder standards, ensure all administrative tasks are completed as assigned.
- Respond to emergency and crisis situations following appropriate procedures, ensure the safety and security of all staff and participants at all times. Provide on-call support to staff in emergency and critical situations on a rotational basis.
- Participate in ongoing program evaluation of health, safety, and IPAC practices and quality standards to ensure compliance with the City of Toronto operating agreement and that contractual obligations are met and where possible exceeded.
- Capitalize on gap areas and community networking that match Association Strategic Outcomes, through assisting in the development of appropriate proposals for service expansion with external funding mechanisms and appropriate committee membership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
You bring:
- Degree, diploma, certificate, or certified in social work, social services, human services, or other related field preferred, or equivalent experience;
- Minimum two years’ experience in a supervisory role;
- 3-5 years of experience working with marginalized youth;
- Experience in analyzing personal and systemic issues leading racialized and LGBTQ2S+ youth to experience homelessness;
- Experience in operationalizing theoretical frameworks and critical analyses of individual and systemic issues;
- Understanding of shelters and transitional housing models, systems, and ability to guide staff in supporting participants to find affordable, permanent housing in the City of Toronto;
- Knowledge of human and housing rights, including any applicable legislation;
- Strong time management and administrative skills, including staffing experience;
- Ability to provide direction regarding clinical and crisis challenges in the context of housing for youth;
- Skills in group facilitation and presentation;
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (MUST have open availability on Saturday and Sunday and on statutory holidays);
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with participants, staff, and volunteers;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to resolve conflicts in a constructive and professional manner;
- Proficiency in using affirming and other strengths-based frameworks as mentioned above;
- Knowledge of the Recovery approach to supporting mental health;
- Knowledge of and practical experience with harm reduction as a framework for substance use support;
- Cultural competence in dealing with members of different cultural and racial backgrounds, including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity, including LGBQ2S and trans-identified youth;
- Preferred: Valid First Aid/CPR certification;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint; Experience in SMIS is an asset;
- Criminal Reference Check within the last 6 months is an asset.
- Excellent understanding of diversity, inclusion and equity including the ability to identify and address barriers, work effectively with diverse stakeholders, and integrate equity into program design
